Nut Rolls

Ingredients:

5 C flour
2 C crisco (butter flavored)
1 t salt
1 pkg yeast
1 t vanilla
3 eggs
1/4 C milk
2 lbs ground walnuts
1 1/2 C sugar

Directions for Dough:

Mix flour, crisco, salt together until crumbly. Set aside.

Dissolve yeast in warmed milk.
Add vanilla and 3 egg yolks. Save the whites for the filling mixture below.
Mix and add the egg mixture to the flour mixture. Mix well.
Add another cup of warm milk and mix well.
Roll dough into a ball and let rise for 2 hours at room temperature and wrapped in a towel.

Directions for Filling:

Beat egg whites until stiff.
Add sugar, ground nuts and mix together.

Roll dough into squares. Add filling and roll starting with one point to opposite point. Roll in white sugar.

Place on greased baking dish open side down and bake on 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until brown.

 

Loved these for Christmas with coffee. Trisha was the best baker of these each year. They last long in a metal
