Irish Soda Bread
Ingredients:
4 C flour
1 t baking soda
1 t salt
1 t baking powder
2 T caraway seeds
¾ C golden raisins
¼ C raisins
1 ¾ C buttermilk or 1 ¾ C yogurt
Directions:
Whisk together the flour, soda, salt and baking powder. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir. Form into a round dome. Place dome onto a parchment covered cookie sheet. Cut an X into the top of the dome about ½ inch deep.
Brush the top with the egg wash*
Egg wash* – 1 lg egg yolk & 1 T heavy crème (mix together in a small cup)
Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes at 350.
An amazing sweet bread for soups and stews on St. Patrick’s Day. Looks pretty on a glass plate and served with marmalade or Irish butter.
