Cut – Out – Cookies for Valentine’s
Posted in : Traditions on by : Alana Tags: Cut out cookies, Valentine's Day
We have a tradition of baking “cut-out-cookies” for Christmas, but today I decided to try something different and have a Valentine’s Day treat with the grandkids. I tripled the batch of dough using Mom’s famous recipe and put it in the refrigerator to chill.
I then made a quick phone call to see if my granddaughter Anaya was available to glaze the little hearts. When she arrived, she was happy to help and immediately washed her hands asked to roll them out using my new rolling pin which was a gift Patrick and Diana had made for me.
Erica and Jack decided to stay to help, and in under two hours we had a triple batch of tiny hearts baked, glazed and sprinkled. Several had an assortment of cinnamon red hot candies for those who loved them! We surely broke a record, as this usually takes most of an afternoon – but the team worked beautifully together.
Clean up was a breeze as we used a baking sheet to do the decorating on and the excess glaze and sprinkles were easily contained.
The cookies were amazing … as usual … with just the right amount of almond.
